Ship & Offshore Structure Design & FEA Assessments

FPSO & Offshore Structures

We have been providing structural design and analysis for floating and fixed offshore structures since 2001 and have engaged in both conversion and new build projects. Viking has become a major provider in FPSO and FSO vessel structural design activities (i.e., FEED, execution, and detailed design phases), primarily focusing on new build and tanker conversion activities. We also do life extension projects to prolong the service life of FPSO and FSO vessels while they remain in offshore operation.

Viking has provided structural services on more than 100 FPSO FEED projects over 20 years. More than 30 of these projects have become actual installations using our detailed hull and foundation structural engineering process during the execution phase. The offshore installations are newly built or converted ULCC, VLCC, and Suezmax tankers located in Brazil, West Africa, the North Sea, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Viking is highly experienced in the selection of suitable tanker candidates for conversion by assessing surveys and thickness gaugings to determine an expected amount of steel renewal at conversion, as well as the design of reinforcements required to remain in a design environment for longer periods (i.e., 20, 25, or more years) of operation.

Viking’s highly specialized knowledge and technology were developed to ensure quality solutions for FPSO structural design projects. In the process, we have gained more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Viking has worked with oil majors, key EPCI contractors, and classification societies to develop a streamlined process adaptable to the rules of the ABS, BV, DNV GL, and more.
