Viking has multiple positions for entry-level and experienced structural naval architects and mechanical engineers interested in ship structure modeling and analysis. Positions in structural modeling and naval architecture are available in our Annapolis office. The successful candidate will join our ship and floating structure design and analysis team to design, model, and analyze ships, barges, offshore installations, and military vessels. Work includes new build and refurbishment projects using classification rules and code checks, advanced finite element modeling, analysis, and assessment. The work will focus on preparing structural models and loads used in global and local ship FEA using Femap, NASTRAN, LS-DYNA, and Viking’s SAGA software. We are seeking a team-oriented individual with a strong interest in ship structures.

General Requirements

  • Interest in Computer Programs, Including Femap, NASTRAN, SAGA, HECSALV, & AutoCAD
  • Ability to Read & Interpret Architectural & Engineering Drawings
  • Ability to Have Fun Working in a Fast-Paced Environment While Meeting Project Schedules
  • Ability to Work Both Independently & With Others in a Team Environment
  • Strong Verbal & Written Communication Skills

Responsibilities Include:

  • Researching Technical Data for Design Studies
  • Analyzing & Resolving Structural Design & Production Issues
  • Creating 3D Models, Including FEA Modeling & Analysis
  • Performing Foundation Design, Weight Engineering, & Hull Outfitting
  • Preparing Technical Specifications & Reports
